taught in four weeks for a unit of study that lasts one month.
- Teacher's manual
is a copy of the student textbooks with all the answers included in
the manual. Correlation to the National Science Standards are included in
the back of each teacher's manual.
- Student Textbook contains 12 lessons, quizzes and hands-on activities. Class sets of the textbooks
are available. Please call toll free (888) 785-5439 for a quote.

- CDs are digitalized student textbooks on
PDF files. The CDs can be used as student textbooks for students who have
been absent and need to make up their work. Site licenses are
available for each of the units. Please call toll free 888-785-5439 for

Igneous Rocks

Hands-on Science
|
Lessons include
|
The igneous rock unit
cover the major types of volcanic rocks that form above and below ground. They
also learn about the volcanoes that produce different types of igneous rocks. Students learn to identify igneous rocks that were blown out of a volcano during
an eruption, formed in a lava flow or cooled underground by their unique
characteristics. Hands-on activities include creating a chart on igneous rocks
that shows the color, texture, density, crystal size and color or various
igneous rocks. Additional hands-on activities on igneous rocks are available in
our ACTIVITY books.

The sedimentary rocks
units teaches about the rocks that cover approximately seventy-five
percent of Earth's surface. Geologists divide sedimentary rocks into three
groups: clastic rocks, organic rocks, and chemical rocks.
Hands-on activities in this
unit include students creating their own
sandstone, growing salt crystals on a stick and creating slides to study a
variety of sand crystals.
Additional hands-on
activities on sedimentary rocks are available in our
ACTIVITY books.

The metamorphic rock unit includes
information on tectonic plates and how plate movement creates
metamorphic rocks. Students learn how various igneous, sedimentary and
metamorphic rocks recrystallize to form new metamorphic rocks without
melting. The hands-on activities in this unit include pressing
layers of bread to show how compression and compaction compacts
sedimentary layers. Students also create a chart showing different
characteristics of various metamorphic rocks they have studied.
Additional hands-on activities on metamorphic rocks are available in our
ACTIVITY books.

Minerals

Hands-on Science

Lessons include
|
Students learn to identify some of the most common
minerals in this unit of study. They learn to identify minerals based on a
process of elimination using identification keys. These keys are based on the
different properties of minerals.
There are approximately three thousand minerals and in this fun kit
students learn how
to conduct simple tests on minerals such as streak, luster and fracture
to identify a variety of minerals.
