Students learn how various igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks recrystallize to form new metamorphic rocks without melting.  The hands-on activities in this unit include pressing layers of bread to show how compression and compaction compacts sedimentary layers. Students also create a chart showing different characteristics of various metamorphic rocks they have studied. Additional hands-on activities on metamorphic rocks are available in our ACTIVITY books.
