Sedimentary rocks make up only about 5% of the rocks in the Earth's crust but they cover approximately 75% of Earth's surface. Geologists divide sedimentary rocks into three groups: clastic rocks, organic rocks, and chemical rocks. Students create their own sandstone, grow crystals and study samples of sand as they learn about sedimentary rocks.
