The colliding Eurasian and Indian Plates are forming the Himalayan Mountains as metamorphic rocks form in their roots. Great heat and pressure is creating these metamorphic rocks that students learn about in this unit. Large magma chambers of molten rock forming deep underground are heating nearby rocks causing them to recrystallize as metamorphic rocks. The fun activities help students understand how pressure, heat and liquids can form new rocks from older rocks.
